US actress embarks on a new streaming adventure with Netflix and produces the science fiction film “Reborn”. Netflix recently became the first streaming service to join the US Film Studio Association MPAA.
Oscar winner Sandra Bullock (54) joins Netflix on another film project after “Bird Box”. As the streaming service announced, Bullock will produce the science fiction film “Reborn”. The fantasy thriller from a comic book series revolves around an 80-year-old woman, who rejuvenates after her death in a magical mystery world with monsters and dragons. She meets old friends there and goes in search of her deceased husband.
Chris McKay (“The Lego Batman Movie”) is on board as a director. According to “Deadline.com” Bullock could also take one of the leading roles. This has not been confirmed by Netflix.
Most recently, Bullock starred in the post-apocalyptic Netflix thriller “Bird Box – Close Your Eyes,” directed by Danish Susanne Bier. In it, she embodies a mother, blindfolded in a dystopian America fleeing from invisible monsters.
Netflix: First streaming service in the US Film Studio Association MPAA
Netflix will be the first streaming service in the influential US film studio association MPAA. The entry was announced by the Motion Picture Association of America. The only other members of the lobby group are the six major US movie studios: Walt Disney Motion Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, and Warner Bros. However, this year the band is likely to lose a member when 20th Century Fox bought by Walt Disney Co.
Fight against piracy
One of the main goals of MPAA is the fight against piracy, which is also an issue for Netflix with its increasing international presence. However, the streaming service does not use the US MPAA system for age recommendations for new movies.
